The Customs Collection and Control Agency (ARK), formerly known as the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP), has implemented a measure that has generated a stir among Argentine taxpayers.
Since Wednesday, ARK has prohibited the use of debit cards, credit cards and bank transfers to a specific group of people and companies, classified as “Untrustworthy Taxpayers”. This decision aims to strengthen control over financial operations and ensure compliance with tax obligations.
“Untrustworthy Taxpayers” are those whose Unique Tax Identification Code (CUIT) is on a list prepared by ARCA. This list includes people and companies that present irregularities in their tax obligations, such as failure to submit sworn returns, tax inconsistencies or lack of supporting documentation.
Each taxpayer on this list receives a monthly rating based on various factors, and those with a low rating are considered unreliable. Starting Wednesday, taxpayers classified as unreliable will not be able to carry out various financial operations.
These restrictions include: They will not be able to make transfers between bank accounts, virtual wallets or through the use of QR codes. They will be prohibited from using credit, debit or prepaid cards to purchase goods and services.
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) may also limit and even block the bank accounts of these taxpayers, preventing them from carrying out electronic transactions until they regularize their tax situation.
Untrustworthy taxpayer
To know if you are included in the list of “Untrustworthy Taxpayers”, you must verify your tax situation through the website ARK. Verify your Electronic Tax Address: Make sure you have declared an electronic tax address, as it is mandatory and subject to verification.
Make sure you are up to date with filing your tax returns. Failure to present yourself may be one of the reasons why you are considered untrustworthy. You can check your monthly rating on the ARCA website to see if you are on the untrustworthy taxpayer list.
