Faced with new threats from the next president of the United States, Donald Trump, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo called for coordination and understanding between Washington and Mexico, since an example of the lack of this has been the current situation in Sinaloa.
He indicated that his government is waiting for the US Senate to ratify Trump’s team to formally begin talks prior to his arrival at the White House next January.
“We are working, I think we are going to reach an understanding with President Trump. Look what happens when there is no coordination, like the Sinaloa case (after the kidnapping of Ismael May Zambada, of whom the Mexican government was not informed)”, referred yesterday morning to a question about the Republican’s position expressed in a press conference regarding allocating hundreds of millions of dollars
to expand the border wall and establish 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
Yesterday, The Day published information from the financial agency Bloomberg that, citing sources who asked not to be identified, indicated that Trump’s team began approaches with authorities in Mexico and El Salvador to analyze the possibility of both countries receiving some of the millions
of undocumented migrants who would be expelled.
The head of the Executive insisted that Mexico’s vision in immigration matters is to address the causes and support the nations of origin with resources, so that people do not see the need to migrate. And far from building walls, he advocated building bridges.
He recalled that at the time, former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador informed Trump of a tunnel on the border between both countries through which drugs and migrants passed.
Our vision will always be attention to the causes. And our message is always to collaborate, in the field of defending our sovereignty, on security and migration issues. And we are going to work with high-level dialogues, that is what we want.
Sheinbaum Pardo rejected the imposition of tariffs and, on the contrary, considered that the T-MEC should be maintained and strengthened. that has given results to the United States, Canada and Mexico
.
The president stressed that her team works to strengthen her government’s vision regarding the bilateral relationship and to be able to present it appropriately to her counterpart. He revealed that in the second phone call he had with Trump he already advanced that position.
Regarding the defense of Mexican migrants – in the face of the mass deportations announced by the next US president – he stated: If necessary we will talk on the phone again. We are going to do our best, always defending Mexicans in the United States, because it is our task, our function, our responsibility and, furthermore, we do it out of conviction.
.
When asked if she had already received the invitation to attend the Republican’s inauguration, the President said not yet. We are going to wait, see if we receive it, and we will make our decision
