The president of the Board of Directors of the National Party, Pablo Iturralde, contradicted this Monday the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, and assured The Observer what they did not agree to discuss the Urgent Consideration Law (LUC).
“We talked about the possibility of debating, but I did not have a definition. We agreed to talk after carnival”explained Iturralde, who was annoyed with Pereira’s statements.
The Frente Amplio president assured The Observer that there was going to be a debate between the two. “He called me because he says he had never said no, and clearly I hadn’t invited him either, but that’s something the media does. We both agreed that there would be a debate and the medium and the format needed to be coordinated”said Pereira.
He added that he proposed this debate to the vice president, Beatriz Argimón, and to the secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, but He got no response from any of them. “Look, he said he wants to debate with a blacksmith, and neither Argimón, nor Delgado, nor I, are blacksmiths”Iturralde said.
After these events, the National Party defined that it wants the Minister of Labor, and leader of the Independent Party, Paul Mieres, be the one to debate against Pereira, although he still does not have the backing of all the members of the coalition.
After the debate between the Frente Amplio senator Óscar Andrade and his fellow lobbyist Guido Manini Ríos, so far the other confirmed debates are that of the senators Gustavo Penadesof the National Party, and mario bergara, of the Broad Front, on March 7. The Uruguayan Chamber of Television for Subscribers (CUTA) will again be in charge of the organization as well as another between Jorge Gandini, white senator, and Alejandro Sánchez, senator of the Broad Front.
