From the trucking sector they do not rule out carrying out a new general strike, in view of the latest increase in fuel prices. This measure could generate a shortage of products in supermarkets and shops.
Ángel Zaracho, president of the Truckers Federation of Paraguay, told 650 AM that the situation is already unsustainable considering the constant rises in fuel prices, a fact that also affects that sector.
With these latest increases, the cost of filling a truck’s tank is currently more than G. 1,000,000, he said. Previously, the investment did not even reach this figure.
As he explained, the ideal is that the cost of freight rises to “accommodate everything” and achieve equal expenses.
“If we don’t have a solution between tomorrow and Wednesday, my colleagues are in a position to strike throughout the country,” said Zaracho.
In the event of a new trucker strike, they warn of a probable shortage of products, which could affect the provision for supermarkets and shops.
“It is impossible to continue working if the fuel continues to rise every 15 or 20 days,” said the head of the Truckers Federation.
In order to find a possible solution, the carriers announce a meeting for tomorrow, in order to see what decision they will be making.
