14 people were arrested this Tuesday in Aurora, Colorado, after being linked to the kidnapping and torture of a couple in an apartment complex that had already been the scene of acts of violence associated with the criminal gang Tren de Aragua, according to the head of the Aurora Police Officer Todd Chamberlain at a news conference.
The attack occurred on Monday night, when the couple was held down and beaten in their apartment by a group of criminals, mostly men.
«They were beaten and one of the victims was stabbed. He had a stab wound. Does that fall into the category of torture? For me, yes»Chamberlain said.
The police report indicated that the victims managed to persuade their captors that they would not report them if they were released. Once free, they sought refuge at the house of friends, where they alerted the authorities about what happened.
The police intervened in the housing complex, identifying and preventively detaining 14 people who were inside one of the units. Chamberlain explained that, although none of the suspects have been formally arrested, they are in custody while their degree of involvement in the crime is determined.
«We will not rest until we verify that everyone involved in this incident is in custody. I am using all resources at my disposal to verify who these individuals are, what their involvement was in the crime, and what their identities are.»he declared.
The investigations are being conducted with the support of federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
