Juan José Santiváñez insists that the state of emergency has had positive results in several districts, although surveys show a different citizen perception about the effectiveness of the measure.

“Why do you want me to resign? I have fulfilled the commitment. The results are there, and it is something that I am not saying, the mayors and the National Police are saying it,” declared Santiváñez during the RPP Test by Fire program. Likewise, when he was asked about the results of the state of emergency, he rebuked the journalist to consult the 14 mayors whose districts have this measure.
“The crime wave has reduced. (…) It’s not because I say so, ask the 14 mayors, they have all indicated that there are positive results,” stated the Minister of the Interior. During this part of the interview, Santiváñez became excited and said that he has video evidence of the statements of the mayors to support their position on the progress of the state of emergency.
The host of the program, however, mentioned that some mayors have indicated that the situation remains critical in districts such as Comas and San Martín de Porres. However, Santiváñez dismissed these claims and insisted that official figures and testimonies support the effectiveness of the measures. “We will continue working to consolidate these advances,” he concluded.
