The Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur) predicts that the 2025 summer season will see records for international tourism in Brazil and Rio de Janeiro. Between January and March next year, there will be an offer of 4.5 million seats on international flights to Brazil, the largest number in history, according to the agency.
The countries that stand out in this scenario are from South America, as there are expectations of 106 thousand more places on flights from Argentina, 83 thousand more from Chile, and 21 thousand more on aircraft coming from Uruguay.
The city of Rio de Janeiro could also break a record for foreign tourists, with 991,000 international passengers expected to disembark between January and March next year, according to Embratur. This number represents a growth of 26% compared to the pre-pandemic period, with an increase of 204 thousand people.
This summer, the agency expects the city to have 68 more weekly flights from South America, as well as nine additional flights from the United States, eight from Europe and one from Asia.
The president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, celebrated the numbers by participating this Monday (16), at Galeão Airport, in the inauguration of the first direct flight between Rio and Montevideo, offered by the foreign airline Sky Airline.
“We are going to break all records and reach US$7 billion with international tourism, which means more jobs and income here in our city, in our state and in our country,” said Freixo.
The connection between Rio and the Uruguayan capital will have four weekly flights, and the expectation is that around 5,000 more people will disembark in the capital of Rio de Janeiro each month.
