The offer of turkeys will reach 1.64 million units for the holidays Christmas and New Year 2025, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). Of this total, 98% come from national production and only 2% from imports.

Midagri also revealed that around 1.33 million units will be sold in corporate sales and through different supermarket chains as frozen processed whole turkey; while the difference, 314,000 units will be sold in poultry distribution centers as live turkey.
In this way, production at the end of this year will reach 3,889,000 units, which represents a growth of 4.7% compared to 2023. It should be noted that the production of these turkey units is equivalent to a volume of 32,993 tons of this bird
The portfolio also pointed out that the consumption of turkey meat in 2024 will reach 1.19 kilos per inhabitant, which means a growth of 1.3% when compared to a year before.
FOREIGN TRADE
On the other hand, Midagri revealed that imports by 2024 will reach 7,487 tons, that is, a decline of 21.9% compared to 2023. “97% of imports enter as turkey meat in pieces and 3% as turkey frozen whole. The origin of these imports corresponds to Chile (44%), the United States (30%) and Brazil (26%)”, Midagri specified.
Meanwhile, he revealed that so far this year, 21.5 tons of chilled whole turkey have been exported and there are no exports of turkey in pieces.
