State congresses have moved slowly in harmonizing local legislation with federal judicial reform. Three months after this constitutional change was approved, only four have approved their regulations.
These are Michoacán, Tamaulipas, Durango and the state of Mexico, according to information from the Senate of the Republic.
In the case of the first three, the corresponding state constitutions have been amended and the changes have already been enacted.
In the state of Mexico, the reform of the local constitution was also approved, but until last Wednesday it had not been published.
In the transitional articles of the federal judicial reform, it is established that the federal entities will have a period of 180 calendar days, from the entry into force of the modification, to make adjustments to their local constitutions.
The renewal of all elected positions of the local judicial powers must conclude in the ordinary federal election of 2027, in the terms and modalities determined by them; In any case, the local elections must coincide with the date of the extraordinary election of 2025 or the ordinary election of 2027.
Among the senators, it is mentioned that harmonization in the states has advanced slowly because various congresses are waiting for the Congress of the Union to approve secondary legislation.
The first entity to homologate its legislation was Michoacán on November 13. On the 18th of that month Tamaulipas did it and three days later Durango. The state of Mexico carried it out on December 10.
