Juan Carlos Delpino, former rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE), after being dismissed by the National Assembly 2020, demanded this Saturday, December 14, that the opponent Edmundo González Urrutia be sworn in as president of Venezuela in the National Assembly (AN), the next January 10, as ordered by the Constitution.
In an interview with journalist Patricia Janiot for her program, “What happened to what happened,” Delpino pointed out that in practice he is a former rector. “I am not fulfilling duties, but my dismissal did not comply with the correct protocols. So I feel part of the Venezuelan institution,” he said.
Delpino highlighted that in the name of the CNE and the National Constitution he proclaims Edmundo González Urrutia and urges the AN to swear him in on January 10.
On October 31, the NGO Acceso a la Justicia warned that the 2020 National Assembly did not respect the procedures established in the laws to carry out the dismissal of the main rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Juan Carlos Delpino, considering that the official he left office.
In its analysis, the NGO indicated that the way in which they carried out the procedure did not comply with the provisions of the Organic Law of Electoral Processes (Lopre), whose article 31 states that “The National Assembly may, either ex officio or by “At the request of third parties, remove the electoral directors with the favorable vote of at least two thirds of its members, following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice, in the Plenary Chamber.”
