First of three Brazilian teams to debut in the Basketball Champions League of the Americas (BCLA, in its acronym in English), Minas got the better of its debut by beating Biguá (Uruguay) and can guarantee classification this Saturday night (14) if it achieves another victory in the group stage. On Friday night (13) the Brazilians beat the Uruguayans 73 to 60, in the first round of Group C.
Tonight Minas returns to the court to face Quimsa, owner of the house and current champion of the BCLA, the main interclub tournament in Latin America. The match will start at 10:40 pm (Brasília time), with live broadcast on the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) YouTube channel.

On Sunday (15) Flamengo and Franca will debut in the competition. Rubro-Negro from Rio de Janeiro faces the host Boca Juniors at 7:40 pm, in Group B (which also includes the Panamanian club Toros de Chiriquí). Franca, a team from the interior of São Paulo, enters the court at 10:10 pm against Leones (Chile), in Group D, which also includes the Argentine team Instituto.
BCLA 2024/2025 brings together 12 clubs in total, divided into four groups. In Group A – the only one without Brazilian teams – are Real Estelí (Nicaragua), Paisas BC and Toros del Vale (both from Colombia). FIBA only announced the matches for the first two rounds of the first phase, which will last until January 2025. According to the regulations, each club will host one round at home. Only the top two in each group qualify for the quarterfinals. From the semifinals onwards, there will be unique clashes, in just one venue, which will still be established by FIBA.
