Meléndez explained that eight people from the same family died as a result of the incident, a 20-year-old girl and the other minors; Among the victims is a 15-day-old baby.
“Our president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, has called the community, where he has given us instructions of unrestricted support for the families,” he said.
For his part, the head of Government, Nahum Fernández, indicated: “The fire was immediately attacked by the corresponding institutions, but unfortunately there was a kind of mechanical asphyxiation; In this sense we have come here to provide support to the entire community. “It is a regrettable fact and also unprecedented in the city.”
Caracas Firefighters officials reported that it was a free-combustion fire: “Upon arrival, the commission tried to make a forced entry to rescue the people who were in the house, but unfortunately they had died from inhalation of smoke”. The Municipal Institute of Risk Management and Disaster Administration, the Caracas Fire Department and other security forces extended the investigation work at the scene of the accident.
