MIAMI, United States. – The girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz, who had a liver transplant last March in Spain, faces new complications that require an upcoming surgical intervention. According to activist Yamilka Lafitaknown on social networks as Lara Crofs, the minor was admitted again on November 27 due to the dilation of the bile duct and the impossibility of placing a stent.

“Amanda is admitted again. Since last November 27, she had to be hospitalized,” said Crofs, who recounted the difficult process that the girl faces.

According to the Spanish doctors dealing with the case, these hospitalizations could occur in the first postoperative year due to the critical conditions with which the minor arrived in Spain, said the activist, the main spokesperson for the case.

Recently, the little girl had to go to the health services for an emergency ultrasound in which it was found that her bile duct was “dilating once again.” The specialists tried to place a stent the day after his admission, without success. “Not being able to enter because the path is very narrow, they decide to place a drain to expel the bile from his body,” Crofs explained. There were two more attempts, but the stent It could not be put in, so “the doctors decided to proceed with surgery to do everything possible to recondition that line.”

The intervention will take place next Monday, December 16, first thing in the morning. “Today I ask you again for Amanda, let us once again unite our best energies, wishes, prayers, to accompany her again in this delicate moment,” requested the activist.

In March of this year, Amanda received a liver transplant in Spain, after long efforts by her mother for the little girl to receive medical attention.

Diagnosed with bile duct atresia, the girl had been waiting for a liver transplant in Cuba for more than a year. His life has been marked by long hospital stays and complications due to resistant bacteria that he contracted while on the Island.

Although the operation in March was a success, bleeding complications and the formation of a hematoma in the abdominal region led the girl, once she underwent the transplant, to further surgeries.

In early April, Amanda underwent her fourth operation in Spain, a country where he arrived in February thanks to a humanitarian visa obtained after an intense media and fundraising campaign.

Until her departure from Cuba, Amanda’s mother denounced the inaction of the Cuban authorities, describing her situation as a “crime” that endangered the life of her baby.
