That Varadero beach, in Matanzas, has been chosen by the Travelers’ Choice 2022 awards, from the TripAdvisor portal, as the second best beach in the worldit is not only due to its natural benefits.

Undoubtedly, it is a reality that distinguishes this beach, but it could not achieve that paradisiacal landscape, “postcard”, if inserted in it there were not all the will and efforts to guarantee that safe, responsible, hygienic and quality tourism that distinguishes.

Only in what refers, above all, to the field of health —so hard hit by COVID-19 and its impacts on the tourism sector—, more than 15,000 workers of that spa were trained in the Protocols of the Tourist Services in the different stages of COVID-19, depending on was announced at the annual balance meeting of the Delegation of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in Matanzas.

And this generated confidence in the issuing markets, so much so that one hundred percent of those who work there have the complete initial vaccination schedule, and almost all have also received the first booster dose.

Even when the Cuban economy suffers the onslaught of the pandemic that, like a vise, puts pressure along with the intensification of the US blockade, in the year that ended, an attempt was made to guarantee the supply of products and services to tourism in the territory. , favored by national participation with the contribution of state companies, agricultural and non-agricultural cooperatives, self-employed workers, and micro, small and medium enterprises.

The ropes were tightened so much in favor of tourism in Varadero, which is definitely for the good of the nation, that between last October and December, the winter stage, the best results were obtained there with the attention to more than 880 thousand tourists a day. .

About a third of that total corresponded to the domestic market; this, based on the diversification of options in the hotel and non-hotel offers that were designed for this segment.

This was announced by Ivis Fernández Peña, delegate of the Mintur in Matanzas, who recalled that this result was due to the opening of new hotel and non-hotel products, the availability of 100% of the optional portfolio, the operation of recreation centers night, as well as the gradual increase in flights and airlines from the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport, in Matanzas.

In this February, 43 hotels provide services in Varadero, with 17 thousand 888 rooms, 83% of the total existing in Varadero.

Several awards distinguish the tourist pole of Varadero. Last year, hotel, non-hotel and support organizations were awarded international awards there that valued their outstanding performance and prestige among customers.

Consequently, the Royalton Hicacos and Blau Varadero hotels were awarded the Holiday Check Special Award, while the Trip Advisor Travelers Choice Award was given to the Meliá Internacional Varadero.

The Casa Perla boutique hotel received a Provincial Award and a National Mention in the 2021 edition of the Republic of Cuba Monument Conservation and Restoration Awards.

From Russia, Canada, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom came the largest number of tourists who enjoyed the Blue Square last year. These countries contributed 80% of the foreign tourists served in Varadero during that stage.
