The number of bicycles produced until November 2024 was 24.1% lower compared to the same period last year. The data comes from a survey released by the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Motorcycles, Mopeds, Scooters, Bicycles and Similar Products (Abraciclo).
According to the association, in November this year 29,451 units were produced, which represents 17.2% less than the same month last year. In comparison with October 2024, the percentage is 13.4% less than November.
Despite the lower numbers, Abraciclo reported that the sector’s performance is within planning for this year.
Electrical
If the numbers for conventional bicycles are lower, the production of electric bicycles was the highlight of the year, growing 46.8% compared to the previous year.
Currently, electric models account for 4.9% of the total units manufactured in all categories. Last year, the index was 2.6%. In the period from January to November this year, the industry produced 16,845 units. It was the highest number ever recorded in companies associated with the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM).
Also according to Abraciclo figures, the mountain bike (mtb) was the most manufactured model in absolute numbers. There were 191,716 units, that is, 56.1% of production. Next come the urban/leisure models, with 67,055 bicycles and 19.6% of the production volume), and the children’s categories: 54,699 units, which represents 16% of total production.
Distribution
In regional terms, the distribution of units was: Southeast, with 182,904 units and 53.6% of the total manufactured; Northeast, with 55,650 units (16.3%); South, with 45,560 units (13.9%); North, with 28,817 units (8.4%) and Central-West, with 28,515 bicycles (8.4%).
