Argentine tourist Gaston Fernando Burlon, 51, shot in the head while driving with his family to visit Christ the Redeemer on Thursday afternoon (12), is in a very serious condition. He remains hospitalized at the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, according to information from the Rio Municipal Health Department.
The Special Tourism Support Police Department is listening to family members who were in a car with the victim. The tourists were surprised by armed men at one of the access points to Morro do Escondidinho, in Rio Comprido, close to the climb to Corcovado.
GPS
The Civil Police reported that they are carrying out efforts at the scene to identify the person responsible for the shooting. The family said that Gaston followed a GPS application, which would have indicated a path through the community.
After being hit, the Argentine crashed his car into the wall of a house, and was rescued by firefighters. The Military Police were at the scene and carried out searches, but did not locate any suspects.
