“The Ministry of the Interior made it clear that the container in Guatemala had no contamination. He passed through Honduras, and nothing happened there either; “It was in the Dominican Republic where this situation occurred,” he pointed out.
Likewise, Arévalo accused interested parties of trying to discredit the Guatemalan security forces using this case.
“It is clear that they are trying to blame Guatemala for allowing the passage of drugs, but it has already been proven that this is not true. The contamination occurred in Dominican territory,” he added.
The seizure, made last Friday, December 6, in the port of Caucedo (municipality of Boca Chica), is considered the largest in the history of the Dominican Republic and one of the largest seizures in the Caribbean. The cargo was to be shipped to Belgium.
The Dominican authorities incinerated the 9.8 tons of cocaine found on Monday, December 9, while investigations continue into the origin and destination of the shipment.
According to a statement issued by Guatemala’s Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, the container was checked with a scanner before leaving Guatemala and did not contain illicit substances, which is why it was classified as “not suspicious.”
