In golden letters, the Senate Wall of Honor will be inscribed: Ifigenia Martínez, woman of state
it was agreed yesterday in the plenary session of that legislative chamber. It was a proposal from Morena to honor a person who dedicated her life to serving the country and forged the path in women’s fight for equality, she highlighted.
The decision to register the economist’s name was approved by all parliamentary groups and there was not a single vote against or abstention.
PAN member Mayuli Latifa Martínez said that this is a recognition of a woman who, beyond political parties, was committed to social justice and the defense of economic policies to reduce inequalities.
He recalled that Ifigenia Martínez was an economist, politician, academic and fighter for respect for human rights and gender equality, and she stood out at a time when they had no possibility of participating in politics.
Laura Itzel Castillo (Morena) pointed out that her former co-religionist was a precursor in the full sense of the word and her work was exemplary when there was a breakaway from the PRI and the National Democratic Front was formed.
Iphigenia was always at the forefront; defending the students in ’68 and participating from the left
he stressed.
On the other hand, the Senate approved with 86 votes in favor and 21 abstentions – from PAN and Movimiento Ciudadano – to award the Belisario Domínguez Medal in its 2023 edition to the journalist and activist Ninfa María Deándar Martínez. The award ceremony will take place today in a solemn session that will be held in the old headquarters of the Upper House.
An agreement of the board of directors was also endorsed so that the judges who decided not to participate in the electoral process next June or renounced their direct pass and have changed their mind, are authorized to compete.
