The Navy decided to occupy the surroundings of the Marcílio Dias Naval Hospital, in the north zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, where a armed force doctor died victim of a stray bullet, last Tuesday (10). The action, which began this Thursday (12), will feature military personnel from the Marine Corps.
According to a statement released by the Navy, the military will occupy an area with a perimeter of up to 1,320 meters away from the naval hospital.
The operation has no end date, according to the Navy, and aims to “guarantee the safety of the crew and users of the Marcílio Dias Naval Hospital”.
Sea captain and geriatric doctor Gisele Mendes de Souza e Mello, 55 years old, was shot in the head while participating in an event in the auditorium of the Brazilian Navy School of Health, within the hospital. At the time, police officers were carrying out an operation in the community of Gambá, which neighbors the health unit.
