Fujimorism backs down on eliminating the JNJ: Which groups supported this maneuver and what are their reasons?

Fujimorism backs down on eliminating the JNJ: Which groups supported this maneuver and what are their reasons?

Congressional effort to dissolve the National Board of Justice (JNJ) has not prospered. A group of 68 congressmen from the political parties Popular ForceAlliance for Progress (APP), Podemos Perú, Perú Libre, Magisterial Bloc, Popular Action, Popular Democratic Bloc, Socialist Caucus and Together for Peru chose to approve a previous issue, which implies that the constitutional reform project must be analyzed again by the Constitution Commission

The ruling abolishes the National Board of Justice and establishes the National School of the Judiciary, in addition to granting the bicameral Congress the power to select the leaders of the Judiciary. National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the National Registry of Identity and Civil Status (Reniec).

Congress: what are the reasons for Fujimorism to go back with the elimination of the National Board of Justice?

According to a report published in La República a few days ago, Fujimorism has backed away from eliminating the National Board of Justice because they see Gino Ríos Patio, former anti-corruption attorney, as a great ally within the Plenary Session of the next National Board of Justice.

Ríos Patio has made known his intentions to run for the presidency of this judicial institution, basing his arguments on the fact that he took first place in the selection contest carried out by the Special Commissionchaired by the Ombudsman, Josué Gutiérrez.

This could be decisive in stopping the project of the congresswoman and former prosecutor of the Nation, Gladys Echaiz. This project, which already has an approving opinion, seeks to replace the JNJ and unify its functions with the National School of Judiciary.

Sources indicate that a “plenary session” has already been agreed upon with the future members of the JNJ at the San Martín de Porres University, where Ríos Patio holds the position of Director of the Research Institute of the law school.

Ríos has in his record an accusation of plagiarism in an article, as well as another complaint, which has not been proven, about the improper use of prosecutor’s office resources by attorneys for their own benefit in a divorce process.

On the other hand, there is also Francisco Tavara. In the legal field, it is believed that the natural president of the new plenary session of the JNJ should be Távara Córdova. He has held positions as chief supreme judge, president of the Judiciary and president of the National Elections Jury.
