He Córdoba Central of Santiago del Estero won the first title in its history by beating 1-0 on Wednesday Velez Sarsfield and raise the Argentine Cup. Central Córdoba managed to win the title in its sixth consecutive season in the first division of Argentine soccer, after several decades in the regional and provincial leagues.
In the match played at the Unión de Santa Fe stadium in front of 25,000 fans, the only goal was scored by Matías Godoy in the 54th minute, after a cross from the right sector that surprised goalkeeper Tomás Marchiori. On the way from the round of 32 to the final, Central Córdoba beat Quilmes, Estudiantes de La Plata, Newell’s Old Boys, Temperley and Huracán.
