Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) established a position regarding the rendering of accounts presented by President Luis Abinader on February 27, in a document in which the president’s omissions are noted by not speaking to millions of Dominicans among those that mention single mothers, the middle class, the elderly and people with disabilities, among other sectors.
In this sense, the PLD refers that President Abinader “did not speak to 46% of the households in this country, which are made up of single mothers,” “the group that suffers the most from the deterioration of public schools, children and, of course, with the rise in prices and the drastic reduction in social assistance”.
Another aspect that draws the attention of the PLD is that in the rendering of accounts the president did not explain how they have used the 8 thousand 522 million dollars that they took in loans last year, nor the more than 3 billion that have already taken this anus.
“They justify themselves with the pandemic, but their own numbers show that only 1,810 million dollars were used in social aid programs and 536 million in health resources for COVID,” says the Dominican Liberation Party.

And immediately the answer is: no, because “maternal mortality has increased by 23.7% in 2021 compared to the previous year, while infant mortality has increased by 20.6%.” He regrets that this year maternal and infant mortality continues to rise and that the figures for other diseases such as tetanus and leptospirosis also worsened, both around 37% higher, and there was a worrying outbreak of diphtheria.
“The president also did not speak to the middle class, which pays more expensive rents, more expensive fuels and more expensive services,” says the Dominican Liberation Party in the document in which it sets its position, read by its vice president, Mr. Juan Ariel Jiménez, in a press conference called at the National House of the organization a few minutes after President Abinader had concluded the presentation of his memoirs in the National Congress.
The PLD maintains that at no time did the president mention older adults, people with disabilities or young people, “who are the ones who have lost the most formal jobs, or farmers in the countryside, who have lived through a nightmare year.” because the government has taken away the machinery and equipment from the surprise visits, and because of the increase in imports and the prices of agricultural inputs.”
“The president did not speak to the micro and small entrepreneurs who struggle daily to get ahead. And we say that he did not speak to them because, according to what we heard, it would seem that the President has not realized how his situation has worsened in the last 18 months, ”says the PLD in the aforementioned document, in which it immediately expresses :
“However, for all those sectors and for many others that were absent from Abinader’s speech, the PLD does have a message of hope and a future. From the PLD we want to make a responsible, constructive policy, based on proposals and solutions”.
Juan Ariel Jiménez, vice president of the PLD, was selected by the PLD leadership to present the organization’s official position, accompanied by Cristina Lizardo and Johnny Pujols, members of the Political Committee, members of the Central Committee, heads of Secretariats and PLD congressmen.

In this sense, the leading political organization of the opposition recalls that President Abinader promised during the campaign “that upon his arrival in government the prices of the basic basket would be reduced by 30%”, but the opposite has happened because since his arrival the price of the basic basket has gone from 36,083 to 40,547 pesos.
In the opinion of the PLD, this means that “rice is more expensive, beans are more expensive, meat is more expensive, even breakfast coffee is more expensive. But not only food has risen, also medicines, fuel, construction materials… Everything is skyrocketing”.
“Faced with this reality, the PLD highlights that the government’s response has simply been to justify itself with the international situation and let the people bear the consequences. And, although as a responsible party we recognize the difficult international scenario, what we cannot accept is that the Dominican Republic is the fourth country in Latin America with the highest price increase, only surpassed by Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil. The people deserve to know the truth, that 7 out of 10 countries in the world had lower inflation than the Dominican Republic.”
