The recent decision of Hugo Moyano to join the small table of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) and appointing Octavio Argüello as his representative in the Cegetista triumvirate has generated a great stir in the Argentine union sphere.

This strategic move seeks to maintain the influence of the Truckers Union in the labor union, despite the resignation of Pablo Moyano, son of Hugo Moyanowho left his position in the CGT a few weeks ago.

Pablo Moyano’s resignation occurred at a time of internal tensions within the CGT. Pablo, known for his combative stance and his inclination towards mobilization and strikes, did not find the necessary support to move forward with a third general strike against the administration of Javier Milei.

This lack of support led him to present his resignation, leaving a void in the representation of Truckers at the top of the CGT. Faced with this situation, Hugo Moyano decided to take action on the matter and ensure the continuity of his union’s influence in the CGT.

In a meeting with a Cegetista delegation made up of Héctor Daer (Health), Carlos Acuña (service stations), Andrés Rodríguez (UPCN), Gerardo Martínez (UOCRA), José Luis Lingeri (Sanitary Works), Juan Carlos Schmid (Dredging and Beaconing ) and Cristian Jerónimo (glass), Moyano announced his decision to join the CGT small table and appoint Octavio Argüello as his representative in the triumvirate.

Octavio Argüello is a highly trusted leader of Hugo Moyano and has had a long career in the Truck Drivers’ union. Born on February 21, 1962 in Loma Hermosa, Argüello began his union career in 1979 at the Venturino collection company, in San Martín. Since 1984, he has been a delegate and has held various positions within the union, including the regional secretariat of Truckers in Tres de Febrero and San Martín.

Incorporation

In addition to his union work, Argüello has had a prominent participation in politics. He was a provincial deputy elected in 2003 by the Buenos Aires Popular Front and a national deputy of the Front for Victory between 2007 and 2011. He was also president of the Party for Culture, Education and Work (CET), a political group founded by Hugo Moyano in 2013. .

The incorporation of Argüello to the CGT triumvirate and the participation of Hugo Moyano at the small table they represent a significant change in the internal dynamics of the labor union.
