The 10th edition of the Women’s Football World Cup, to be held in Brazil in 2027, already has a specific date to take place. FIFA confirmed this Tuesday (10) that the competition will start on June 24th and end on July 25th. The announcement was made by Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, during the entity’s technical council, in Zurich (Switzerland). The director also revealed how the 32 places in the competition will be distributed, which for the first time will be held in South America. The Brazilian cities that will host the event remain undefined.
“The 2027 Women’s World Cup is already taking shape and we can’t wait for the opening match on Thursday 24 June 2027 and all the games leading up to the final on Sunday 25 July 2027,” Infantino said. “This historic tournament will have a huge impact not just in South America, taking women’s football to the next level in terms of participation and popularity,” he concluded.
The World Cup will bring together a total of 32 teams, 29 of which will qualify directly in qualifying tournaments held by the continental confederations. Brazil, as it hosts the World Cup, is already guaranteed one of the three direct places in Conmebol/South America. The others will be divided as follows: Uefa/Europe (11 places), AFC/Asia (six), CAF/ Africa (four), Concacaf/North and Central America (four) and OFC/Oceania (one).
The last three places will be decided in a repechage tournament (playoffs) in two phases. The first of them will feature six teams classified according to the latest FIFA women’s rankings, before the draw for the playoffs. The first two placed teams will advance to the final stage in February 2027, joining four other teams, two from Concacaf, one from Conmebol and one from Uefa. There will be a draw for the three knockout matches that will define the last three places in the World Cup.
