Copei: Libertador Organic Law is not to persecute opposition politicians

The national secretary general of Copei, deputy Juan Carlos Alvarado, specified that the Organic Law Libertador Simón Bolívar against the Imperialist Blockade and in Defense of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela aims to persecute opposition politicians.

He made this point during a press conference, specifying that “who can think that this law was created to persecute? Whoever committed the crime, of course. The problem is that minority political sectors of the Venezuelan opposition have violated the Penal Code, have called for ignorance of the institutions and promoted acts of treason against the country. But the most serious thing of all is that the Constitution has been violated,” he asserted.

In this regard, he cited articles 130 and 131 of the Magna Carta, which account for the duties and rights of Venezuelans. “And here there are citizens, thank God, very few, who have done a lot of damage to the country. Those who have participated in the blockade, who have called for sanctions, and have generated violence and confrontation between brothers and sisters,” he said.

On the other hand, he invited the general population to participate in the democratic day on December 15, where Justices of the Peace will be elected.

Heading to the National Convention

Alvarado also referred to the holding of the party’s National Convention, next Sunday, January 12, 2025.

In a joint press conference with the National Electoral Commission (CEN), Deputy Alvarado highlighted the successful achievement of another phrase contemplated within the Electoral Schedule as part of the corresponding political responsibility.

“Last Thursday, December 5, the list of delegates who are authorized to actively participate and vote in the selection of the next national authorities of our party was published on our party’s web platform,” he indicated.

Likewise, he stressed the relevance of holding the National Convention in the month of January, after several decades.

“After 32 years, Copei managed to organize the holding of a national convention, and it should be noted that this party did not carry out such important activity because it was kidnapped, in some way, by political leaders who were not interested in the party’s bases express themselves, that they could give their opinion and elect their authorities,” he commented.

Likewise, he noted that next Monday, December 16, the nomination process for the plates that will compete in the aforementioned national convention begins.
