Oxapampa: River drags combi and passengers leave swimming

Oxapampa: River drags combi and passengers leave swimming

By a miracle, the driver and occupants of a van were saved. And when crossing the mighty Aguachini River, the vehicle was swept away by the torrential waters on the route from the native community of Acolla to the district of Puerto Bermúdez in the province of Oxapampa, all the occupants left to swim.

However, some products they were carrying to sell and other objects were lost in the waters.

In recent days, the rivers of the lowland jungle have increased their flow considerably, so much so that they are flooding fields of crops and houses that are close to the banks of the rivers, due to the torrential rains that fall every day, preventing agricultural work.

Locals, also swimming, reached where the vehicle was with its tires up. They tied him with a rope so that the current would not carry him downstream.

The community members of Aguachini immediately requested the construction of a bridge through that place, to guarantee the lives of schoolchildren, farmers and others who pass through the area.

On the other hand, a heavy caterpillar tractor that was on a street in the Puerto Bermúdez district was on the verge of disappearing due to the load of the Pichis River, which overflowed its banks, flooding businesses, houses and fields with crops. According to the neighbors, it is the second flood of the river.
