“We have done very intense work, very committed and very responsible with each of the actions that are undertaken year after year in relation to what has to do with our proposal linked to gender perspectives” expressed the Teacher Sonia Gómez.
“It was an intense year because many activities were carried out both in terms of the inter-institutional aspects that are so necessary due to the networking that we always highlight with a strength in Cerro Largo, as well as from our Secretariat” he pointed out.

“In what has to do with work in the territory itself, with the community, with people at the level of childhood, adolescence and adults, we had the opportunity to carry out many workshops this year to raise awareness on gender issues not only on issues of violence, which is one of the aspects that concerns us and is extremely important. Yes, we will have to continue generating spaces of awareness to somehow achieve objective No. 5 of the global agenda for the Sustainable Development of Nations, which is to fight against gender violence.” he stated. “On the other hand, in everything that has to do with gender itself, this is about generating a change in consciousness, about being able to see ourselves as people equally or differently from what we saw before as men and women.” he added.
FOR A NEW MASCULINITY
The Gender Secretary of the Social Management Directorate of the Municipality of Cerro Largo said that a profound change of consciousness must be generated, especially in men. “We have bet a lot on the change in consciousness of being a woman and it is now time to also bet on the change and transformation of men, on a new masculinity, on a new way of being a man, which is fundamental” he pointed out.
“It’s a job like an ant, it’s a job where you have to unlearn” accurate. “We women have also learned a lot about how men should be and we generate those expectations. Men have to comply with that, with those obligations that are so big and that sometimes they can’t” express.
