Minister Ángel Manero: There is exclusivity of water for the Arequipa dam

The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Ángel Manero, stated that the water from the Yanapuquio dam will be exclusively for Arequipa, guaranteeing Moquegua the construction of three new dams: Chilota, Titijones and an additional one to be defined.

This statement seeks to calm the tensions generated in Moquegua, where protests demand solutions to the pollution of the Coralaque River and could join the residents of the Tambo Valley. The minister urged people to put aside social pressure and prioritize open dialogue.

Manero explained that the distribution of water resources cannot be divided between regions. “Each region must have its own dams,” he pointed out, highlighting that 60 million cubic meters of storage are planned for Moquegua.

It should be noted that currently The Moquegua region has been undergoing a strike due to the inaction of the Executive against the pollution of the Coralaque River. Faced with this, Manero insisted that the road blockades, promoted as a protest measure, will not be accepted and asked the Moqueguana authorities to suspend these actions to move forward with the dialogue in coordination with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).

The minister reported that has requested a meeting with the governor of Moquegua within the framework of the Regional Executive Council scheduled for December 12 in Piura. According to Manero, this meeting seeks to address the demands of the population and specify solutions related to water, the decontamination of the Coralaque River and other pending projects that benefit both Moquegua and the Tambo basin in Arequipa.

He added that the Government is willing to advance tasks that have been postponed for years, such as road infrastructure, productive development and environmental sanitation. “What we must demand are concrete works and for the State to function,” he stated,

The minister called for calm in the affected regions, stressing that protests are not a solution. “We gain nothing from the protests. “What we must demand is work, concrete works and a functional State,” held.
