María Corina Machado: "We are prepared for the decisive hour"

Part of María Corina Machado’s statement was dedicated to the situation of political prisoners. He recalled that after the repression unleashed by Nicolás Maduro against the protests demanding the results of the presidential elections, in which the CNE announced him as the winner, more than 2,000 people were arrested.

The opposition leader and national coordinator of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, assured this Sunday that “we are prepared for the decisive hour” and “to consummate the change” that, she said, was built on July 28.

“We are very close, we are prepared for the decisive hour (…) Soon we are going to consummate the change that we long for as a family and as a nation,” Machado stated in an audio spread on their social networks.

Part of his statement was dedicated to the situation of political prisoners. He recalled that after the repression unleashed by Nicolás Maduro against the protests demanding the results of the presidential elections, in which the CNE announced him as the winner, more than 2,000 people were arrested.

«The situation of our political prisoners is criminal, they and their family are suffering deeply (…) I do not understand how people faced with an event like this do nothing, or what is worse, people who feel that they do not have to do something. “This is our responsibility,” said Machado.

In addition, he said that “all” political prisoners – among whom there are adolescents, older adults and people with disabilities – “suffer some type of physical or psychological abuse, they all need us to regain their freedom.”

He also addressed Mariana González, a 17-year-old girl released from prison in the state of Carabobo after writing a letter to her mother expressing her intentions to commit suicide. “All the children and young people of Venezuela speak through you (…) That letter breaks the heart of any mother in this country and the world.”

«My call to Venezuelans is not to remain indifferent to evil. As a community, let’s take action. Let’s do good, let’s protect our brothers who suffer and when they are called, make their contribution, individual, small, medium or large to materialize the change that we built and that we already decreed on July 28,” said the opposition leader.

María Corina Machado, together with the opposition gathered under the Unitary Platform, claims the “fraud” committed in the presidential elections on July 28. Based on the voting records collected, they have stated that the winner was Edmundo González Urrutia with 70% of the votes. The diplomat, exiled in Spain after threats, has said that he is willing to return to the country and be sworn into office.
