Sales in malls grow due to the magic of Christmas

Christmas It is a time of magic, family unity, hope, and why not say it, gifts and spending. This year, with an economy that grows more than in 2023 (which fell 0.55), Santa Claus came loaded with good news for the shopping centers (cc) and for the Gamarra emporium, which expect greater sales on this date.

Thus, the general manager of the Association of Shopping and Entertainment Centers (Accep), José Antonio Contreras, calculated that in this campaign, considered the most important of the year in terms of billing, trade will increase by 10%.

As he explained, since September of this year, when Shopping Day took place, the indicators already reflected that the December holidays would have favorable results for this sector.

And, if the Peruvian soccer team did not bring us the gift in advance, the stores have put on the suit of Santa with the activation of promotions and offers so that more people can leave a gift under the tree.

In this campaign, something that has caught attention is the increase in store pickup. That is, consumers choose to buy online, but they ask that the sleigh leave the package at the company’s premises and then pick it up.

“What is produced here is something interesting, because people pick up at the store and at the same time take the opportunity to buy more things. So the physical and virtual space have a good complement,” Contreras highlighted.

This season leads to people becoming Three Wise Men and seek to give the best, and that is within reach of their pockets. Thus, the Accep representative estimated that the average ticket for this date will vary between S/250 and S/270.

MORE OPTIONS

The Christmas this year will not only have turkey, panettone and chocolate as protagonists, but also to three new shopping centers. The first to open the doors was Km40 by former soccer player Jefferson Farfán. Added to this establishment are Boulevard Puntamar (located in the Sur Chico of Lima) and Parque La Molina, developed by the Parque Arauco company.

Contreras explained that between the three they add up to around 40,000 square meters of profitable area, which provides more options for people to make their year-end purchases.

These purchases include all types of sectors, but he explained that among the favorites are those linked to fashion, beauty, technology and, of course, toys.

THE ENTIRE OUTFIT

As mentioned above, Gamarrathe space that houses 40,000 mypes, is also achieving higher year-end sales. Its representative, Susana Saldaña, explained that at this time the emporium is divided between wholesale and retail sales. The latter are the ones that are growing at a faster rate.

“Wholesale represents 60% of the total, but today we see that retail is advancing more quickly. The families, since two Saturdays, have begun to come in force,” he explained.

And the fact is that the half million people who come to the establishment look for the complete outfit to receive the 12 in Christmas and New Year. Thus, the businesswoman commented that people buy underwear, clothing and even tablecloths to decorate the table.

In Gamarra, these purchases are made by families (father, mother and two children), who spend on average between S/400 and S/600. That amount, although it seems high, is lower than the up to S/800 registered before the pandemic.

One of the new items for this season at the emporium are personalized polo shirts for entire families. There is also a trend for Christmas pajamas to be worn on December 24, just as soccer players and artists do in other countries.

Something that the commercial conglomerate takes advantage of this month is the promotional celebrations. Saldaña explained that, around this date, many parents have the costumes made that they and their children will wear for this important event.

GUARANTEED SECURITY

One of people’s biggest fears on this date is the ‘Grinch’ of the Christmaswhich in this case is the crime that hits the entire country. However, both José Antonio Contreras and Susana Saldaña guaranteed security in commercial spaces.

“To date, no cases of crime have been reported inside the CCs, but we have security both inside and outside the establishments,” said the general manager of Accep.

Meanwhile, the Gamarra representative recalled that La Victoria was recently declared an emergency, which will mean a greater presence of the military in the emporium. Added to this, he explained, is that security in the galleries has been redoubled.
