Santo Domingo. – Monsignor Carlos Tomás Morel Diplan took possession as bishop of the Diocese of La Vega, in a ceremony held this Saturday at the Fernando Teruel indoor facility.
In his homily, the also president of the National Pastoral Commission of Ecology and Environment of the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate (CED), indicated that given the environmental riches of the demarcation and the threats that afflict it, especially mining activity, ”the exploitation of natural resources must be done in a manner rational and sustainedtaking into account social and environmental justice.”
In the mass broadcast by various media, and in which bishops of the CED, priests, deacons, consecrated persons and hundreds of lay people, as well as civil and military authorities, participated, the clergyman also highlighted the importance of “reigniting the enthusiasm to create a culture of vocational promotion so that youths “Discover your vocation.”
About Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán
The new bishop of La Vega carried out his philosophical and theological studies at the Pontifical Seminary of Saint Thomas of Aquinas (SPSTA). He was ordained a priest on June 24, 2000, and a year later he took a vocational pastoral course in Colombia, while in 2007 he completed a degree in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy in Rome.
In the Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros he served as vice-rector and rector of the Propedeutic and Philosophy of Saint Pius as director of the San Esteban School of Permanent Deacons, and member of the College of Consultants of the Presbyteral Council and the Ecclesiastical Court.
He was ordained auxiliary bishop of Santiago de los Caballeros on February 25, 2017 by Monsignor Rafael Leónidas Felipe y Núñez, bishop emeritus of Barahona. On December 2, 2023, he was appointed apostolic administrator of La Vega and on October 18, 2024, he was appointed bishop of said diocese.
