The IOM director gave these words during her virtual intervention at the launch in Panama of the Regional Response Plan for Refugees and Migrants (RMPR) 2025-2026 of the Regional Interagency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants of Venezuela (R4V).

More than 4.5 million Venezuelan refugees and migrants residing in Latin America and the Caribbean have regularized their immigration status since 2019, among which 1.3 million did so in 2024 alone, thanks to a new strategy that helps their integration. announced the R4V Platform.

An example of this, he noted, is that “with the support of the Platform, more than four million residence permits have been granted to Venezuelan migrants in countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean,” which has been “fundamental to avoid “new irregular movements of migrants and refugees along dangerous routes, such as the Darién jungle, where many have lost their lives.”
