César Hildebrandt on Dina Boluarte: The problem was not her face, but her ability to be morally miserable

César Hildebrandt on Dina Boluarte: The problem was not her face, but her ability to be morally miserable

In a recent column, journalist César Hildebrandt criticized President Dina Boluarte after the confirmation by the former president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarolaabout the nasal surgery he underwent in mid-2023. In this context, Hildebrandt questioned the decision to carry out this operation in the midst of the social and political crisis that the country was facing at that time.

As a mockery, he pointed out that his real problem lies not in his physical appearance, but in what he describes as his “ability to be morally miserable.” Hildebrandt, known for his incisive style and his criticism of Peruvian politics, exposes his discontent with Boluarte’s management, whom he accuses of dishonoring fundamental promises and commitments.

The journalist maintains that Boluarte, who assumed the presidency after the dismissal of Pedro Castilloshould have called new elections instead of becoming a “screen” for Fujimori and its allies. “The contract was very clear: she would not govern, she would be a screen,” says Hildebrandt, suggesting that the president has been used by political forces, such as Fujimori, who seek to perpetuate their control over the country.

Hildebrandt also criticizes the relationship between Boluarte and Keiko Fujimori, where he claims that both figures joined together in a “real coup d’état” that has led to an erosion of democracy in Peru. According to the journalist, the current Government has legislated in favor of crime and has made the work of judges and prosecutors difficult, while the country’s economic situation deteriorates.

The columnist does not skimp on words when describing the impact of this government on Peruvian society, stating that it has started with “fifty deaths.” and that now seeks to control the Constitutional Court. “Accepting the dictatorship of the underworld Congress takes us into the moral abyss,” he warns, in which he questions how the population has tolerated this situation.

Hildebrandt concludes his criticism with a call for reflection, in which he suggests that future generations will wonder how it was possible that the most questioned right in the country has managed to govern and lead Peru to collective “humiliation.” His column becomes an echo of the frustration of many Peruvians who feel that democracy and justice are in danger.
