They train and deliver kits to mitigate emergencies in schools in Cúcuta

The Mayor’s Office of Cúcuta and the Colombian Red Cross North of Santander section, within the framework of the project implementation of risk awareness and emergency and disaster management processes in Cúcuta, delivered school emergency kits to educational institutions in the city. This activity is part of the process of “Implementation of risk awareness and emergency and disaster management processes in the municipality of San José de Cúcuta”, established between the Red Cross and the Municipal Mayor’s Office. “So far this year, 374 humanitarian aid kits have been delivered, which include: market, cleaning, kitchen and night kits, we made a characterization and managed to advance this process that strengthens the response capabilities of the educational community of the city”; assured the director of the Cúcuta Risk Management Office. The 15 directors of the Educational Institutions, selected to receive the school emergency kits, were also present at the facilities of the Colombian Red Cross. This training process lasted 50 hours of first aid, 120 in school risk management, 30 in evacuation and identification of emergency signs, 60 hours in handling fire extinguishers, 120 in school response strategy, 90 hours in School Plan of Disaster Risk Management and 30 hours in emergency response drills in 292 sessions, in the 15 educational locations during the period of the September 17 to November 21, 2024. “Highlight that here in Cúcuta one of the most important actions in the world is being carried out, which is working on anticipatory actions; At the beginning of this year, the Mayor saw that in 2024 there could be floods, landslides, migrants, vulnerable displaced people and that is why it was key to make an agreement to have the capacity to deal with these emergencies,” said Carlos Iván Márquez.
