Mayors of Los Olivos and Rímac in favor of compulsory military service for "ninis"

SERVICIO MILITAR

In response to the rising wave of insecurity in Lime and Callao, the mayors of The Olive TreesFelipe Castillo, and El Rímac, Néstor de la Rosa, supported the implementation of mandatory military service as a measure to strengthen citizen security.

Felipe Castillo explained that the measure not only seeks to strengthen the Armed Forces, but also to provide these young people with an opportunity for change through discipline and order.

“It is aimed at those young people between 18 and 25 years old who do not study or work (NEETs) at high risk. Those who are associated with gangs and bravas, who need from the State to have an opportunity to change their lives with more discipline and more order,” said Castillo.

For his part, Néstor de la Rosa, mayor of El Rímac, joined the proposal and emphasized the need for Congress to listen to the mayors’ initiatives. He criticized the lack of attention to other safety projects, such as the regulation of linear motorcycles, which was shelved by Parliament.

“It (compulsory military service) is very necessary, but more necessary is that Congress listens to us. Just like the project of my colleague from Los Olivos regarding military service, we mayors have initiatives. Let’s hope that Congress does not turn the initiative of my colleague from Los Olivos into a dead letter. As long as we mayors are listened to, we will confront crime,” said De la Rosa.
