Dina Boluarte: these are the eight investigations that the president has accumulated against her

The Rolexgate case and alleged illicit enrichment

The second and third case is for the rolexgate and alleged illicit enrichment of the president.

In May of this year, the then National Prosecutor, Juan Villena, ordered to separate the investigations, one for improper passive bribery because Boluarte did not declare the watches and jewelry he uses, and another for illicit enrichment.

He Rolexgate case advanced and that is why Villena filed a constitutional complaint for bribery against Boluarte. Last Thursday, the Permanent Commission approved with 22 votes in favor to process this accusation.

While, regarding the case of illicit enrichment, the investigation still continues due to the alleged imbalance in the president’s bank accounts and the origin of the deposits made between July 2021 and August 2022.

Deaths in protests

The fourth investigation is into the deaths that occurred in the repression of the protests against this Government. Prosecutor Villena also filed a constitutional complaint charging Boluarte with alleged homicide and serious injuries.

The Permanent Commission, with some differences between the benches, approved with 13 votes to process said constitutional complaint. With this, this investigation enters its final stage in the parliamentary jurisdiction.

Like the Rolexgate case, now the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of Congress I delegated to two congressmen the preparation of the reports to accuse Boluarte for these cases.

Presidential chest

The Government was evaluating dismissing former PNP general Raúl Alfaro. According to Villanueva, Benavides said that “that cannot be” and asks him to coordinate a meeting with Boluarte. “I coordinate with the president’s advisor, Mrs. Grika Asayag,” said Villanueva.

Deactivation of Eficcop

The seventh is for the deactivation of the Special Police Team that supported the Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of power (Eficcop). Last month the Judiciary asked the Public Ministry to end this investigation.

And the eighth investigation against the president is for the alleged illicit contributions of the Peru Libre campaign in the case of “The Dynamics of the Center.”

The Public Ministry investigates the role that Boluarte played as in charge of keeping the accounting of the accounts of the Perú Libre political party during the 2021 election campaign and the origin of that financing.

Congress must see investigations

As Boluarte is a high official, she has the prerogative of pre-trial and impeachment. When the Public Ministry finishes the preliminary investigation and needs to move on to the preparatory one, it must present a constitutional complaint for each case.

These complaints will reach Congress and will first be heard by the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations, then by the Permanent Commission and finally in the Plenary.

If the congressmen do not approve the accusations, the Prosecutor’s Office will have to wait for a new Parliament to do so or five years, which is the period that the right of pre-trial lasts after Boluarte leaves the presidency.

Dina Boluarte clings to the position

In the midst of these processes, the president rejects the new attempt to vacate the presidency against her for alleged abandonment of office. “Enough of polarizing our society, enough of the rumors of a presidential vacancy,” he said at a ceremony for the anniversary of the Peruvian National Police (PNP).

The sustainability of his government basically depends on the will of the coalition that dominates Congress, led by Fuerza Popular and Alianza Para el Progreso.
