Controversy over the operation of lots I and VI of Talara

The operation of lots I and VI of Talara (Piura)which was delivered to Petroperú last year, through a temporary license contract for up to two years, is once again generating controversy. The president of the state company, Alejandro Narváez, has been against the lots returning to the private sector, despite the fact that there is already a bidding process underway.

In this regard, the president of the Hydrocarbon Sector Committee of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE), María Julia Aybar, stated that there are at least four companies interested in obtaining the concession.

“There is a constitutional framework and a legal framework that regulates how the Peruvian State delivers the lots and none of them establishes that it can do so directly to the state company,” he told this newspaper.

Likewise, he pointed out that Perupetro, which is in charge of the bidding process, has been clear in specifying that they are going to continue with the contest, so if the oil company wants to keep the lots, it must participate as an interested party.

Given the possibility that one of the conditions for granting this tender is having Petroperú as a partner, the SNMPE representative pointed out that this would make the tender not so successful and would lead to the offers not being as attractive.
