According to Professor Carlos Jiménez, president in charge of Fetrasined Lara, educators are being subjected to harassment and reprisals by regional and national educational authorities when exercising their right to protest and collective bargaining.
A group of teachers led by the Federation of Unionized Education Workers (Fetrasined) Lara, appeared this Friday, December 6, before the Ombudsman’s Office in Barquisimeto to report a series of violations of their labor rights.
According to Professor Carlos Jiménez, president in charge of Fetrasined Lara, educators are being subjected to harassment and reprisals by regional and national educational authorities when exercising their right to protest and collective bargaining.
“They are preventing us from attending assemblies, denying us attendance records and limiting us in the exercise of our functions,” Jiménez denounced. “We are being subjected to an economic and legal strangulation that threatens our dignity and the quality of education.”
Among the main demands of teachers are:
Salary increase: educators demand a decent salary that allows them to cover their basic needs.
Signature of collective contracts: they request the signing of collective contracts to guarantee their labor rights.
Respect for acquired rights: they denounce the violation of the Onapre instructions and demand the recognition of the confiscated rights.

Labor flexibility: they request that the right to work flexible hours be respected, especially for those teachers who supplement their income in private institutions. “The government requires us to comply with all our obligations, but it does not provide us with the necessary tools to do so,” said Jiménez.
To conclude, he stressed: “It is incredible that the Minister, Héctor Rodríguez, talks about educational quality and until now what this administration has done is a kind of economic and legal strangulation of workers, particularly in education.”
