The Executive Council of the Judiciary, chaired by Supreme Judge Javer Arévalo Vela, appointed Senior Judge Jhonny Hans Contreras Cuzcano, the new president of the National Superior Court of Specialized Criminal Justice, for the period 2025-2026.
Contreras Cuzcano will replace senior judge Octavio César Sahuanay Calsín in that position. The Superior National Criminal Court is the jurisdiction that is in charge of the most important, high-profile and transcendent processes and trials of organized crime and corruption crimes in the country.
Thus, under its jurisdiction are all processes of political interest, such as the trials of the Lava Jato case, The White Necks of the PortLos Waykis in the Shadow, the trials of Vladimir Cerrón and Keiko Fujimori, Martín Vizcarra, Ollanta Humala, among others.
The preparatory investigation judges of the National Criminal Court, such as Richard Concepción Carhuancho and Jorge Chávez Tamariz, have spoken out against all the laws with their own name that the Congress of the Republic has issued in favor of organized crime and those prosecuted for corruption crimes.

In the National Superior Court of Criminal Justice it is not possible to hold elections because it does not have enough of its own senior judges. The judges of the National Court are tenured, but on loan from other higher courts in the country. For this reason, their appointment is the responsibility of the Executive Council of the Judiciary.
