They ask that the 8% VAT be expanded for restaurants

The Union of Restaurant Guilds of Peru requested that the deadline be extended for micro and small businesses (mypes) of restaurantshotels and related companies, continue paying 8% VAT.

“Although our sector is in the process of recovery, it has not yet been possible to reach pre-pandemic levels. It must be taken into account that the measure taken to temporarily reduce VAT only includes micro and small businesses in the which 99% of the workforce is between 1 and 10 workers,” he said in a statement.

Likewise, he specified that with the standard approved in 2022, a collection of 14.91% more was generated than in 2022 and 6.25% more in 2023 if compared before the pandemic. “These figures do not reflect that fiscal imbalance that some specialists come out to declare to the media,” he said.

“These are concrete figures that support the request to expand a measure that clearly met several objectives: on the one hand, that thousands of companies manage to survive in the market, on the other that the State improves collection in companies in the sector and finally that a large number of companies are formalized, thereby achieving greater revenue,” said the union.

For this reason, he pointed out that it is necessary for the Congressional Economy Commission to put the expansion proposals on the agenda, taking into account that said deadline expires at the end of this year.

“It is very important for all micro and small gastronomic entrepreneurs that Congress raise awareness of this sector, so hard hit by bad decisions by previous governments.

Our gastronomy continues to advance and fill all Peruvians with pride,” he commented.
