The Minister of Justice, Eduardo Aranaresponded to a list of questions during the interpellation against him held on Wednesday. Along these lines, he referred to the proposal that seeks to implement the death penalty for serious crimes, presented by congressman Jorge Montoya.
When consulted by the Honor and Democracy legislator, the head of the Minjus assured his portfolio that he is willing to evaluate the measure in cases of crimes such as sexual abuse against minors or contract killings.
However, Arana indicated that the changes proposed by Montoya “require a process,” and noted that they must be reviewed.
“Although as Minister of Justice I am not only a believer and defender of the inter-American human rights system, personally I cannot help but express my astonishment for those who, in effect, like him [Jorge Montoya] has clearly mentioned and pointed out, they rape children or carry out this execrable attack against society through hitmen or those who attack women by abusing their position of power,” he indicated.
“And personally, believe me Mr. President (of Congress) and I hope to respond to Mr. Jorge Montoya, sometimes as a minister and sometimes as a person I also feel the same concern that this should be reviewed,” he assured.
