The minister of the Superior Military Court (STM) Maria Elizabeth Rocha was elected this Thursday (5) to occupy the military court, the highest body of the Union’s Military Justice. The inauguration will be in March 2025.
The minister has been part of the STM since 2007, when she was appointed during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s first term. She is the first woman appointed to the military court in the body’s 216 years of operation.
From 2013 to 2015, the minister temporarily assumed the presidency of the STM, but for a buffer term.
Maria Elizabeth is from Belo Horizonte and graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas). The minister also has a doctorate in Constitutional Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
The STM is made up of 15 ministers, five of whom are civilians and ten are military, whose seats are distributed among four vacancies allocated to the Army, three to the Navy and three to the Air Force.
