This Wednesday, the Electoral Court officially declared the Frente Amplio formula, headed by Yamandú Orsi and Carolina Cosseas winner of the 2024 elections.
During this ceremony, the magistrates read the proclamation document, confirming the triumph of both over the nationalist candidates, Álvaro Delgado and Valeria Ripollin the vote held on November 24. A total of 2,436,780 votes were registered, of which The FA formula received 1,212,833, equivalent to 49.8% of the votes.
The minutes received unanimous approval from all members of the court. Upon receiving the certifications, Cosse expressed: “It is going to be very difficult to hide the emotion.”
The vice president-elect highlighted the work of the Electoral Court since the restoration of democracy. “With all my heart, we are going to fulfill and honor the best democracy of Uruguay, thank you very much,” he said.
A transparent election
For his part, Orsi recounted a conversation he had with a regional leader who called him to congratulate him: “One of them told me: ‘It’s incredible how in Uruguay the results are always so close and no problems or suspicions are allowed.’”
Furthermore, he stressed that although this can be attributed to the country’s party system, it is also the result of the efforts of the Electoral Court. “These formalities strengthen the credibility of our system,” he stated.
“The average Uruguayan knows that he is in good hands,” said the president-elect and highlighted this day as a “celebration that we continue to do things well as a country.”
