Gabriela Fossatia retired former prosecutor, has launched strong criticism and accusations towards Jorge Díaz, appointed as future pro-secretary of the Presidency by the mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi. In a context of growing political tension from the future right-wing opposition, Fossati hinted that his safety could be compromisedstating that “if I appear in a ditch, they already know where to point.” This statement has aroused interest and concern in various sectors of public opinion.
Fossati’s questions focus on Díaz’s role. This former Court prosecutor has been the subject of constant criticism, especially for the management he had during his performance in that position, always from right-wing actors such as nationalist senator Graciela Bianchi, who has criticized and questioned him repeatedly.
“The Frente Amplio tried to silence me in every way since I left (…) I know them, I know many things that hurt me a lot,” said the senator in the middle of the year. Regarding Jorge Díaz, he accused: “I believe that it is part of a plot and today it can be proven (…) a plot to achieve impunity for corruption.”
Now Fossati turns his own intrigue on Díaz. Since his retirement from office, Fossati has become actively involved in politics, initially supporting the National Party and later the Colorado Party, adopting a decidedly critical stance towards the current administration but much more towards the Frente Amplio.
Statements on government audits
Jorge Díaz, in a recent interview with the program “Fácil deviar” on FM Del Sol, assured that “There will not be a witch hunt” in the new government. However, in the same statement, he left the door open for audits in state management, a practice that he said is common in the functioning of the State. “We are not thinking with special emphasis on any particular point”said Díaz, who stressed that any irregularity detected would be the subject of an administrative or criminal investigation, as appropriate.
For his part, Fossati has expressed skepticism regarding these claims, arguing that the attempt could be perceived as political persecution. In an interview with El País, the former prosecutor stated that He has “the conviction that they are going to carry out a witch hunt”. She also reported having faced pressure during her administration to involve the current president, Luis Lacalle Pou, in a case related to passports, and ended up being removed from it without clarification.
Fossati also referred to the candidate for Interior Minister, Gustavo Leal, who has also been part of his criticism. She assured that, with both in key positions in the government, she feels “at risk.” Despite these pronouncements, he acknowledged that Orsi is “a different person” and that he has a “much more reasonable attitude” compared to the figures who have been the target of his accusations.
