More than 19 thousand police and military will reinforce patrols at Christmas

Santo Domingo.-With the integration of more than 19 thousand agents from the National Police and the Armed Forces, the “Peace Guarantee” operation began yesterday at Christmas 2024, which seeks to prevent criminal and violent events during December.

During the activity that was headed by President Luis Abinader, the director of the Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, explained that the operation will have 15 thousand police officers and more than 4 thousand members of the Armed Forces who will be deployed at the national level to reinforce patrol work.

Guzmán Peralta highlighted that the operation will include the integration of the first 1,016 agents trained and trained under the new guidelines of the reform.

In addition, he pointed out the new image and the incorporation of cameras, non-lethal weapons, new motorcycles and trucks to ensure more efficient police work.

“In this Peace Guarantee Operation that we started today, we will have more than 15 thousand agents of the National Police and 4 thousand members of the Armed Forces at the service of citizen security, which will allow us to guarantee the safest Christmas ever seen in our country,” said the police director.

Guzmán Peralta reiterated his commitment to guarantee citizen safety during the Christmas festivities.
For her part, the Minister of the Interior and Police, Faride Raful, stated that to guarantee security it is necessary to respect the rights, due process and approach to citizens, but involve citizens so that they respect the laws.

“Only by respecting everyone’s rights can we guarantee citizen security,” said Raful.
He explained that from the Government chaired by Luis Abinader, enormous efforts are being made for social cohesion between the State institutions responsible for order and citizenship.

The event concluded with the delivery to the National Police by President Abinader of 240 trucks, more than 200 motorcycles and 10 other vehicles to reinforce road safety and patrol work during this Christmas and New Year.

More than 1,200 members of the Military and Police Commission (Comipol) will be deployed to reinforce security measures and offer assistance to those traveling on the country’s roads and highways during festivities.

Without deciding flexibility in alcohol sales
Reaction. Faride Raful assured that the Ministry of the Interior and Police will be prepared to enforce the rules in case President Luis Abinader decides to extend the hours of sale of alcoholic beverages during the Christmas festivities.

“We are waiting for the president’s final decision. In recent years, what has been extended is just a schedule and we only have to continue reinforcing it because regardless of whether there is one more hour of flexibility, if so, we are already prepared to continue enforcing the law,” express.

Last week Raful said that such flexibility is not necessary.
