In addition, more than 30,000 suspended licenses have been reported as part of the “save your life” accident prevention campaign.
In the usual press conference every Tuesday, before government propaganda media, General Commissioner Jaime Vanegas, inspector general of the Sandinista Police, presented the accident report for the first 11 months of the year, which covers between the first of January and December 1 of this year.
Police statistics indicate that, in this period of the year, 862 deaths occurred as a result of accidents on the roads, 26 less than in 2023 when 888 deaths occurred on the roads.
Likewise, the police report that 2,478 injuries have been recorded this year, which represents 295 fewer compared to 2023, when 2,773 occurred.
Fewer motorcyclists killed on roads
Likewise, the Sandinista Police reported that in the 11 months that have passed this year, 457 deaths of motorcyclists were recorded, which represents, according to police statistics, 70 fewer motorcyclists dead compared to 2023 when 527 occupants lost their lives on the roads. of motorcycles.
“Save your life” plan by collecting licenses and arresting drunk drivers
As part of the National Road Emergency Plan, the Police are developing a campaign called “Save your life”, within which they held seminars and presented the road safety education booklet to protect life to 26,703 people. Likewise, according to the report, the police, offered 1,574 talks during house-to-house visits, stops, bus terminals, markets, and community assemblies, in which they approached a total of 5,138 people.
The police officer pointed out that, in the week that just passed, they carried out traffic regulation on 74 sections of highway, 6,814 mechanical inspections with transport units and training for the owner of selective and collective transportation means; and traffic education talks in departmental capitals, municipalities and districts of Managua, in which 3,989 drivers with a high level of risk of traffic accidents, such as motorcyclists and public transport, participated.

The Police also reported that from January 1 to December 1, 2024, 38,042 licenses were suspended and 5,534 drivers were arrested for driving while intoxicated.
In the week from Monday, November 25 to Sunday, December 1, 442 licenses were suspended and 72 people were arrested for driving while intoxicated.
874 vehicles seized in the country’s departments are also reported; 1,276 breathalyzer tests on drivers and 1,730 people arrested for driving without a license.
