With Grand Master (GM) Osvaldo Zambrana and International Master (IM) Licael Ticona, chess gave Bolivia two bronze medals in the Bolivarian Bicentennial Games taking place in Ayacucho, Peru.
This Tuesday the sports science activity ended in the multi-sports event in which 10 countries participate.
Bolivia was represented by Zambrana, Ticona, Fide Master (WFM) Jessica Molina and Master Candidate (WCM) Gloria Yépez.
There were two days of competition in tests such as Blitz Mixed Teams, Rapid Mixed Teams, Blitz and Rapid Individual in both branches.
The two bronze medals were obtained in the Individual Blitz. Zambrana won it on Board 1 and Ticona on Board 2.
Zambrana, the only GM in the country, played five rounds, of which he earned two points as a result of his victories over the Venezuelan IM Félix Ynojosa and the Guatemalan Fide Master (MF) David Girón.
He lost to Peruvian GM Jorge Cori, Colombian GM Santiago Ávila and Panamanian IM Jorge Baules.
The gold was won by Cori (5) and the silver went to Ávila (3.5).
Ticona was third on Board 2 by scoring three points after five rounds. He won over the Venezuelan FM Samid Escalona, the Panamanian FM Orlando León and the Guatemalan IM Carlos Juárez.
He couldn’t beat the Peruvian IM Renato Terry and the Colombian IM Esteban Valderrama.
The gold medal went to Valderrama (4.5) and the silver medal went to Terry (4).
Bolivia occupies sixth place, among ten countries, in the general medal table of these games, with two gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.
