SLP, Mexico.- This Monday, December 2, a fire broke out in the photovoltaic solar park (PSFV) of Alcalde Mayor, located in the municipality of Abreus, Cienfuegos, according to what was reported in the local official press.

The fire was put out in time by the workers at the site and by the fire department, according to the note published by September 5.

Salvador Vera Hernández, director of investments from the Cienfuegos Electrical Company, explained that they used fire extinguishers and sand that they had nearby and activated a water pipe, since the firefighters were very far from the place. The causes of the accident have not yet been revealed.

According to the manager, the flames occurred in an area where solar panels were stored and were about to be installed, but “no other resource outside of this type was affected,” the note stated, without specifying how much the damage amounted to.

“Fortunately there was no loss of life. Nor will this fact stop the work in the park, which will continue with the assembly of the tables and the assembly of new panels. We will continue with the delivery schedule scheduled for next December 20,” said the official.

The man also noted that they have “a margin of time” to replace the equipment that was destroyed by the fire.

The PSFV uses technology from China, and has a total capacity for 42,588 panels, but so far there are only 13,000 assembled, the rest would be stored in containers.

The fire occurs almost a month after the official press boasted that three parks with photovoltaic solar technology were being built in Cienfuegos, as part of a national program that plans to install 1,000 MW in a first stage.

In the report they praised that the most advanced was that of Mayor, with 75% of his execution.

The regime ensures that along with the parks planned in Cienfuegos, other provinces such as Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila are advancing in different stages of execution of facilities of this type in their respective territories.

Beyond the aspirations, yet to be realized, the energy crisis on the Island continues to affect Cubans in the form of long blackouts and the absence of other related services such as water supply.

The Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba advertisement that the blackouts will simultaneously cover 52% of the national territory during peak hours (afternoon-night) this Tuesday. In this way, the highest impact rate recorded so far this year is repeated, discounting the two general blackouts that affected the Island in October.

The UNE indicated that the interruptions of the electrical service are due to the lack of fuel and breakdowns in the units of the operational terrestrial thermoelectric plants.

The state company specified that unit 5 of the Mariel Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), unit 5 of the CTE Nuevitas, unit 2 of the CTE Felton and unit 6 of the CTE Renté are out of service due to breakdowns. On the other hand, unit 2 of the CTE Santa Cruz, units 3 and 4 of the CTE Cienfuegos, unit 6 of the CTE Nuevitas and unit 5 of the CTE Renté are under maintenance.
