He Judiciary issued 18 months of preventive detention against the prosecutor Elizabeth Peraltawho is being investigated for influence peddling and specific passive bribery.
As recalled, the supreme court did not obtain the four votes to confirm whether it ordered or rejected the imprisonment of the Money Laundering prosecutor. The vote was 3-2 in favor of rejection. Given this, Supreme Judge Saúl Peña was summoned to issue a decision. The magistrate tipped the balance in favor of preventive detention and the vote was 3-3.
After the tie, Judge Álvarez Trujillo was called to define the verdict, which ended up agreeing with the Public Ministry. In that sense, the court decided to revoke the order to appear with restrictions on Peralta Santur and impose preventive detention for 18 months.
“They revoked this point of the first instance order; they reformed it: THEY IMPOSED the measure of preventive detention on the defendant Luz Elizabeth Peralta Santur for a period of eighteen months,” the resolution states.
Likewise, it is ordered “that the corresponding documents be carried out for their location and capture.”
The case
Prosecutor Elizabeth Peralta Santur is being investigated for allegedly having requested US$1 million, through former driver Andrés Hurtado, known as ‘Chibolín’, to return to businessman Javier Miu Lei five seized gold bars that were seized from his company in 2020.
