The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a storm warning for seven states: Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná. The alert has a severity level classified as danger and remains in effect until 10 am this Wednesday (4).
The forecast is for rain between 30 millimeters and 60 millimeters per hour (mm/h) or between 50 millimeters and 100 millimeters per day (mm/day), in addition to intense winds that can vary from 60 kilometers to 100 kilometers per hour (km /h) and hail. There is also a risk of electricity cuts, damage to crops, falling trees and flooding.
The affected areas include: Center Goiano, Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, Central Mineira, Norte Pioneiro Paranaense, Zona da Mata, Center-South Mato Grosso, South Goiano, Presidente Prudente, São José do Rio Preto, Metropolitana de Curitiba, East of Mato Grosso do Sul, Campinas, West of Minas, Bauru, Piracicaba, South/Southwest of Minas, Itapetininga, North Center of Mato Grosso do Sul, Campo das Vertentes, Ribeirão Preto, Araçatuba, Southeast Mato Grosso, Northwest Paraná, Macro Metropolitana Paulista and Marília.

In case of gusts of wind, Inmet advises that the population does not take shelter under trees, due to the risk of falling and electrical discharges, and does not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs.
“If possible, turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply. Get more information from the Civil Defense (phone 199) and the Fire Department (phone 193)”, recommends Inmet.
Intense rains
Another alert published by the institute is of intense rain, valid for part of the country until 10 am this Wednesday. The alert has a severity level classified as potential danger. The forecast is for rain between 20 mm/h and 30 mm/h or up to 50 mm/day, in addition to intense winds varying between 40 km/h and 60 km/h. According to the warning, there is a low risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.
